Funds freed up for health-care initiatives

Community health-care development projects in the region will receive more than $2 million in state funds, part of a $13.8 million allocation statewide designed to improve service efficiencies.

The grants came through two State Department of Health programs: The Health Care Efficiency and Affordability Law for New Yorkers (HEAL NY), administered through the DOH and the State Dormitory Authority; and the Rural Health Network Development Program, administered by the DOH.

According to a prepared release, the $7.1 million in HEAL NY funds are intended to help nonprofit and municipal organizations undertake regional planning activities aimed at improving the efficiency of community health care systems. Recipients of the two-year grants will begin to assess health care resources in their communities and provide forums to bring together key stakeholders and users

Three local agencies received funds through this program:

• Allegany/Western Steuben Rural Health Network Inc., $120,000

• Chautauqua County Health Network, $120,000

• P2 Collaborative of WNY Inc., $999,820

The Rural Health Network funding, totaling $6.7 million, will help rural provider improve access to care and introduce services through the formation of rural health networks. Five agencies in the Western New York region received grants:

• Allegany County Community Services, $183,269

• Chautauqua County Health Network Inc., $233,180

• Healthy Community Alliance Inc., $214,464

• Lake Plains Community Care Network Inc., $218,364

• Southern Tier Health System Inc., $233,961
