This month we continue our Meet the Staff series. Meet Ann Marie Sava, master chef and baker, finance aficionado, and the longest P² employee.
What’s your role at P² Collaborative?
I am the Director of Finance and Operations. I work with the staff to ensure financial compliance is achieved for each of our funding sources and to prepare the financial reporting for the organization including Financial Statements, grant and organization projections, and cash management.
How long have you been with P² Collaborative?
I started with P² in July 2010; and seven years have gone very fast.
What do you like most about working at P²?
I enjoy the team effort to submit a grant proposal. The P² team complements each other and we depend on each other to share our strengths for the creation of a grant proposal. Grant awards are truly a team accomplishment and I appreciate the talents of my co-workers!!
What’s your favorite thing about Western New York?
Western New York is home. I can go to my favorite places (Canisius College Chapel where Frank and I were married, family & friends nearby, our favorite restaurants, and enjoy the home that Lauren and Erica grew up in).
What advice would you give to people entering in the field?
Be willing to share non-confidential accounting solutions, formats or personally created documents with other accountants. Your network of accountants will become a valuable resource to you as you are presented with new challenges. Sharing of knowledge helps everyone create an overall sound accounting system.
What are three things on your bucket list?
What hobbies do you have outside of work?
I love to cook and bake. I enjoy hosting family dinners serving a Thanksgiving dinner for no occasion, sauce and meatballs for an easy dinner, and many other family favorites. My sisters and I bake the traditional Italian wedding cookies for the holidays. Our family recipes are a labor of love, aka a lot of work!
This summer, I have enjoyed riding my bike with Frank on the Ken-Ton bike path.
Before working at P², what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?
While in college, I was a Bridal Registry Consultant for a Department Store. It was a fun job meeting brides and accumulating their list of requested gifts. One bride stopped into the store to make a quick change to her registry…it was the groom’s name…this was the only change she made.
What’s your guilty pleasure?
One word. Chocolate!
If you could have any one superpower, which would you choose, and why?
I always thought Samantha’s powers on the tv show Bewitched was an admirable quality. With a snap of her fingers she could commute to another place. Just image popping into work in West Seneca from Kenmore in a snap.
What’s behind the name of your pet(s)?
Our second dog, a tricolor sheltie was named “Mookie.” Mookie was a loveable dog who knew more of the neighbors than us. Mookie was named after Mookie Wilson of the NY Mets. It was game six of the 1986 world series, when I found an appreciation for baseball and a great name for our next puppy.
