Check out this month's meet the staff with Glenda.
What’s your role at P² Collaborative?
I am the Program Manager for the Local Initiatives for Multi-Sector Public Health Action (IMPACT) grant. IMPACT supports goals to improve population health, transform healthcare delivery, and reduce health disparities in alignment with other state initiatives.
How long have you been with P² Collaborative?
I have been with P² for over 5 years- started August 2011.
What do you like most about working at P²?
The structure- we're a small organization and the staff is amazing. And the opportunity to work with different stakeholders from almost every sector for the greater good of the community.
What’s your favorite thing about Western New York?
Diverse communities. Good food. Wonderful people and the majority of my family live in the area.
What advice would you give to people entering in the field?
• Patient: takes patience to interact with and influence diverse stakeholders
• Empathetic: sensitive and sincere, understand the needs of others
• Assertive: a leader; accepting of others
• Communicator: creative: need to find ways to motivate others over whom you have no direct influence; must be able to inspire the confidence of stakeholders and partners.
• Energetic: never a dull moment
Most importantly, you must be passionate about the work and be sincere.
What are three things on your bucket list?
I haven’t thought of a bucket list. I guess I think and hope I’ve got some time before I kick the bucket. I’ve been blessed to see and do a lot of things in my life. I am grateful for every opportunity I’ve had thus far. I guess if anything, I've always wanted to be a writer. I plan to take some classes. Who knows you just might see my name on the “Best Seller” list.
What hobbies do you have outside of work?
I love patchwork quilting. It’s a skill my mom taught me. Unquestionably she was much more talented and creative than I will ever be. She created her own patterns using scraps to make the most beautiful designs and stitched by hand. I prefer hand stitching too. I find it very relaxing.
What’s your guilty pleasure?
Oh, definitely chocolate!
Do you have a favorite quote?
My favorite quote can be found in Scripture, Jeremiah 29:11: “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
Although Bible scholars might argue that I’ve taken this verse out of context because it was meant for many and not just one I would argue that it is a verse that offers encouragement to me whenever I am uncertain or confused in the middle of turbulence. I find solace in knowing that “this too shall pass”.
We talk about food A LOT at P², what’s your favorite food?
I love Mediterranean cuisine- spicy and hot!
Do you have any strange phobias?
One might say my irrational fear of cats is strange-Ailurophobia. It is not a fear that I’ve conquered.
