On Friday, January 13, 2017 the Quality Living to the End of Life Coalition will host a Community Summit at which we plan to identify and involve any organization, individual or group that is active in efforts to increase the use of advance care planning in Western New York. The Quality Living to the End of Life Coalition’s mission is to encourage Western New York residents and their loved ones to consider, discuss and document their values and choices and to facilitate processes within the medical community that honor those values and choices.
The Community Summit will be our first major, public effort to recruit even more stakeholders, and one of the main goals of the meeting will be to develop the beginnings of a comprehensive list of community resources that can advance this important work. Participants will also have a voice in determining the specific strategies we should utilize to accomplish our mission, and a follow up meeting will be held at which we will identify and assign tactics.
The collective action discussion will be led by Dr. Bill Wieczorek and Alan Delmerico from the Buffalo State College Institute for Healthy Community Promotion, and their work has been funded by a generous grant from the Health Foundation for Western & Central New York.
The Community Summit will run from 1:30 pm – 3:30 pm and will take place at the Gaylord Cary Conference Room at Roswell Park Cancer Institute. Anyone interested in attending or learning more about this work is asked to contact John Craik at firstname.lastname@example.org.
